The sight of an overflowing pool can cause concern, particularly if its your own! A pool that is filled to the correct level keeps the mind at ease. Perhaps it was a period of rain or serious deluge that has your pool overflowing. Perhaps you have just left the tap on - which is a story we frequently hear. Hopefully, your pool and the surrounds are well designed and there is adequate drainage to deal with the run off.
If not, and you feel the need to empty some water out of the pool, here's how.
Be aware you are only able to reduce the level of water to a point at the bottom level of the Skimmer. If you drop the level too far, the pump will be unable to draw water from the pool, and you will damage the pump, and negate the ability to filter and sanitise the pool water (that could get expensive!).
Different systems will have differing methods to turn off the power to the pool pump. In most cases this can be done at the chlorinator (e.g. ON/OFF/AUTO switch). In other cases, it might be done by turning the power off at the power point, when required. Consult the relevant User Guide if required.

Sand Filter Pools
NEVER ATTEMPT TO TURN THE FILTER HANDLE WHILST THE PUMP IS ON.
1. Turn pump off - At the chlorinator, if possible, or at the power point.
2. Turn filter handle to WASTE
3. Turn pump back on.
4. Allow pump to run which will send water out of the pool through the 'waste line'.
5. Turn pump off when the level of water is down to the desired level.
6. Turn filter handle back to FILTER.
7. Revert Chlorinator setting back to Automatic, if applicable.
Cartridge Filter Pools
You will only be able to remove water if you have a Waste Line installed.
1. Turn pump off - At the chlorinator, if possible, or at the power point.
2. Turn the appropriate Valve handle (often red, or blue) to divert the water to the Waste Line.
3. Turn pump back on.
4. Allow pump to run which will send water out of the pool through the 'waste line'.
5. Turn pump off when the level of water is down to the desired level.
6. Turn Valve handle to divert water back to the pool.
7. Revert Chlorinator setting back to Automatic, if applicable.
Check that the current time on the Chlorinator is correct and adjust if necessary.
