 Frequently Asked Questions

Does Grass Die When Exposed To Pool Water?

Many Gold Coast pools use a saltwater chlorinate to keep the pool sanitised. In brief, your pool is kept clean and healthy by the salt that this chlorinator converts to chlorine. Now, while we may not be gardeners, personal experience suggests that high levels of chlorine and concentrated amounts of salt will damage your lawn. Protecting your lawn from these dangers, though, is as simple as making sure the chlorine level of the pool remains within the recommended range, and that you're careful not to spill salt onto the grass when adding it to the pool. For help with all pool care in Worongary, call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Rated For Lower Voltages Than Other Home Appliances?

They are. Because pool lights are low voltage, they are safe to include in your pool. The power is passed through a transformer which reduces the voltage to a safe level (typically 12 volt). Here at Active Pool Supplies, we can supply you with a modern set of LED pool lights that have a variety of features, including changing colours and remote control. For all pool care in Worongary, reach out to the Active Pool Supplies team on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Covers Safe?

If you want to keep yourself or anyone else safe around your pool, you shouldn't rely on a pool cover to get the job done. In Australia, our swimming pool safety laws are very clear around safety matters, including the need for fencing. A pool cover will not stop accidents from occurring. You can speak to our teams at both Active Pool Supplies store, in Bundall or Runaway Bay, for help with all matters related to pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast - come in-store or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

How Do I Stop Algae From Growing In My Pool?

You need the right levels of sanitiser in your pool to keep the water healthy and balanced. Generally, you'd want to use chlorine to achieve this, as the chemical can destroy algae, bacteria, and a variety of small organisms that might be living in your pool. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. Previously, chlorine was manually added by pool owners, requiring constant maintenance. These days, however, the most common and easiest method of sanitising Worongary pools is by installing a saltwater chlorinator in the filtration system. Electrolysis is used to create a soluble hypochlorous gas by adding salt to pool water as it passes through the chlorinator cell, and this gas is used as the sanitising agent that removes bacteria and algae from your pool. Your pool water will need to be maintained at an appropriate pH level to ensure the chlorine treatment remains effective. Additionally, the water must be filtered adequately so that dead algae and bacteria is captured in the filter and periodically removed from the water when the filter is cleaned. Keeping the floors and walls of your pool clean of dust, dirt, and debris can also help manage the pH of your pool water and keep it clean and safe, as is maintain good water flow.

Should I Change The Chemical Balance Of My Pool By Large Amounts In One Go?

For pool owners, there is a constant challenge of pool upkeep and maintenance to ensure the pool remains as functional as possible. Consequentially, it's normal for homeowners to want to speed up the process of pool upkeep wherever they can, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to cut corners when it comes to keeping the chemical balance of your pool maintained. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. To speak to our team about pool care in Worongary, call us on (07) 5537 3341.

Generally, you should avoid trying to make large changes to your pool's chemical balance all at once. Rather, only make small changes by using smaller amounts of chemicals. Test the water's chemical levels a few hours after each small change, though it is important that you leave it to rest with the filter running in the interim. You can repeat this process until you're satisfied with the results, which may not be the case for large changes. There is a chance that by making large alterations to your pool in a single pass, you'll find yourself having made a change that may be difficult, if not impossible, to reverse. Don't make large changes to the chemical balance of your pool in a single pass if you're trying to keep it well-maintained.
