 Frequently Asked Questions

Is It Possible For Pool Water To Kill Your Grass?

Most pools on the Gold Coast use a saltwater chlorinator to sanitise the pool. In brief, your pool is kept clean and healthy by the salt that this chlorinator converts to chlorine. Now, while we may not be gardeners, personal experience suggests that high levels of chlorine and concentrated amounts of salt will damage your lawn. Protecting your lawn from these dangers, though, is as simple as making sure the chlorine level of the pool remains within the recommended range, and that you're careful not to spill salt onto the grass when adding it to the pool. If you have any questions about pool care in Santa Barbara, you can reach out to our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Considered Low Voltage?

Yes. Because pool lights are low voltage, they are safe to include in your pool. The power is passed through a transformer which reduces the voltage to a safe level (typically 12 volt). Here at Active Pool Supplies, we can supply you with a modern set of LED pool lights that have a variety of features, including changing colours and remote control. If you have questions about pool care in Santa Barbara, contact the Active Pool Supplies team on (07) 5537 3341 today.

Are Pool Covers Safe?

You should not rely on a pool cover to keep you or anyone else safe around the pool. In Australia, our swimming pool safety laws are very clear around safety matters, including the need for fencing. A pool cover will not stop accidents from occurring. You can speak to our teams at both Active Pool Supplies store, in Bundall or Runaway Bay, for help with all matters related to pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast - come in-store or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

Can I Keep My Pool Safe From Algae?

In order for your pool to be healthy and balanced, appropriate levels of sanitiser must be present. Generally, you'd want to use chlorine to achieve this, as the chemical can destroy algae, bacteria, and a variety of small organisms that might be living in your pool. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. Previously, chlorine was manually added by pool owners, requiring constant maintenance. Today, anyone with a Santa Barbara pool is able to cut out the maintenance time with a filtration system fitted with a saltwater chlorinator. Salt (or other suitable mineral with a salt content) is added to the pool water in sufficient quantity so that as the pool water passes the chlorinator cell, through the process of electrolysis a soluble hypochlorous gas is dispersed into the water which acts as the sanitiser to kill the algae and other bacteria present in the water. You'll need to keep your pool water well balanced to ensure the chlorine is able to work effectively. Additionally, the water must be filtered adequately so that dead algae and bacteria is captured in the filter and periodically removed from the water when the filter is cleaned. Keeping the floors and walls of your pool clean of dust, dirt, and debris can also help manage the pH of your pool water and keep it clean and safe, as is maintain good water flow.

Can I Make Large Changes To The Chemical Balance Of My Pool At Once?

Owning a pool can be hard work, requiring constant maintenance and upkeep. Consequentially, it's normal for homeowners to want to speed up the process of pool upkeep wherever they can, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to cut corners when it comes to keeping the chemical balance of your pool maintained. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. To speak to our team about pool care in Santa Barbara, call us on (07) 5537 3341.

It's best if you avoid changing the chemical balance of your pool by large amount in single passes. Instead, you should make small changes by adding small amounts of chemicals. After these changes have been made, test the water once you've left it to rest for a few hours with the filter running. You can repeat this process until you're satisfied with the results, which may not be the case for large changes. There is a chance that by making large alterations to your pool in a single pass, you'll find yourself having made a change that may be difficult, if not impossible, to reverse. Don't make large changes to the chemical balance of your pool in a single pass if you're trying to keep it well-maintained.
