 Frequently Asked Questions

Will Pool Water Damage Your Lawn?

Saltwater chlorinators are popular choices when it comes to keeping Gold Coast pools sanitised. In very simple terms, this chlorinator converts salt to chlorine to keep your pool clean and healthy. Over the years, our team of pool specialists has seen the damage the resultant high amounts of salt and concentrated chlorine can do to a lawn. The important thing is to keep the chlorine level in the pool within the recommended range, and be a little bit careful when adding salt to the pool so that it doesn't spill directly on your grass. For help with all pool care in Santa Barbara, call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Low Voltage?

Absolutely. Pool lights are low voltage and therefore safe to have in your pool. To make sure they are only using safe voltage levels, a transformer is used to ensure they use about 12 volts. Active Pool Supplies can provide modern LED pool lights with varying features, including the ability to change the colour of the light, and remote control. For all pool care in Santa Barbara, reach out to the Active Pool Supplies team on (07) 5537 3341.

Is Your Pool Safer If You Have A Pool Cover?

It's not enough to rely on a pool cover to keep yourself and anyone else safe around your pool. Swimming pool safety laws are very prescriptive in detailing fencing and other safety matters. If your pool is protected by just a pool cover, accidents can still happen. For help with pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast, come in and see the team here at Active Pool Supplies at our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores, or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

Can I Prevent Algae From Growing In My Pool?

By using the right amount of sanitiser in your pool, you can keep the water balanced and healthy. This is typically accomplished with chlorine, which will destroy algae and most other bacteria & small organisms in the water. Pool owners have several choices when they need to decide how they would like to chlorinate their pool. In the past, pool owners would manually dose chlorine in liquid form on a very regular basis. These days, however, the most common and easiest method of sanitising Santa Barbara pools is by installing a saltwater chlorinator in the filtration system. The chlorinator cell uses electrolysis to add salt to the pool water, creating a soluble hypochlorous gas that sanitises the pool water by removing algae and bacteria. For the chlorine to work effectively, the pool water must be balanced so that it remains at the optimal pH level. It's also important that you filter the pool water appropriately, and that you regularly remove dead algae and bacteria from the filter. Cleaning the floors and walls of the pool to remove dirt, dust, and debris is also critical to preventing algae, as is good water flow.

Will Changing The Chemical Balance Of My Pool Too Quickly Create Problems?

It can be challenging to owner a pool, as they require large amounts of upkeep and maintenance to ensure they remain suitable for homeowners. As a result, it can be tempting to try to speed up the process in any way possible, but when it comes to keeping your pool's chemicals balanced, that may not be possible. With some help from Active Pool Supplies, you'll be able to maintain the chemical balance in your pool using the best practices possible, ensuring it remains healthy for longer. For all pool care in Santa Barbara, get in touch with our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Generally, you should avoid trying to make large changes to your pool's chemical balance all at once. Make smaller changes instead by using smaller amounts of chemicals in any one attempt. Once you have, you should leave them to rest with a running filter for a few hours, and then test the water. Using large amounts of chemical in a single pass deprives you of the ability to test the water repeatedly and stop once you've achieved perfection, which you can do after smaller changes. Correcting the influence of large amounts of chemical can be difficult, and so by making large changes all at once, you may find yourself in a tough spot. If you're trying to maintain the chemical balance of your pool, you should avoid making large changes all at once.
