 Frequently Asked Questions

Does Grass Die When Exposed To Pool Water?

Many Gold Coast pools use a saltwater chlorinate to keep the pool sanitised. By converting salt to chlorine, this chlorinator is able to keep your pool healthy and clean. Over the years, our team of pool specialists has seen the damage the resultant high amounts of salt and concentrated chlorine can do to a lawn. The important thing is to keep the chlorine level in the pool within the recommended range, and be a little bit careful when adding salt to the pool so that it doesn't spill directly on your grass. For help with all pool care in Parkwood, call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

Is It True That Pool Lights Are Low Voltage?

They are. It's safe to have pool lights in your pool, because these lights are low voltage. To make sure they are only using safe voltage levels, a transformer is used to ensure they use about 12 volts. Active Pool Supplies can provide modern LED pool lights with varying features, including the ability to change the colour of the light, and remote control. For all pool care in Parkwood, reach out to the Active Pool Supplies team on (07) 5537 3341.

Is Your Pool Safer If You Have A Pool Cover?

If you want to keep yourself or anyone else safe around your pool, you shouldn't rely on a pool cover to get the job done. Requirements surrounding fencing and pool safety are made extremely clear in Australia's swimming pool safety laws. If your pool is protected by just a pool cover, accidents can still happen. For help with pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast, come in and see the team here at Active Pool Supplies at our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores, or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

How Do You Prevent Algae Growing In Your Pool?

You need the right levels of sanitiser in your pool to keep the water healthy and balanced. You'll commonly want to use chlorine to achieve this, thanks to its ability to kill undesirable elements within your water, including algae, bacteria, and small organisms. Pool owners have several choices when they need to decide how they would like to chlorinate their pool. In the past, pool owners would manually dose chlorine in liquid form on a very regular basis. These days, however, the most common and easiest method of sanitising Parkwood pools is by installing a saltwater chlorinator in the filtration system. Salt (or other suitable mineral with a salt content) is added to the pool water in sufficient quantity so that as the pool water passes the chlorinator cell, through the process of electrolysis a soluble hypochlorous gas is dispersed into the water which acts as the sanitiser to kill the algae and other bacteria present in the water. For the chlorine to work effectively, the pool water must be balanced so that it remains at the optimal pH level. ou'll also need to ensure the water is being well filtered, ensuring that the dead algae and bacteria that become captured in the filter are routinely removed from the pool. Your pool will also benefit from good water flow and routine brushing of the walls and floor of the pool to remove debris, dirt, and dust.

Can I Make Large Changes To The Chemical Balance Of My Pool At Once?

For pool owners, there is a constant challenge of pool upkeep and maintenance to ensure the pool remains as functional as possible. Though you may want to try to speed through your maintenance commitments for your pool wherever you can, you might not be able to rush the process of balancing your pool's chemicals. With some help from Active Pool Supplies, you'll be able to maintain the chemical balance in your pool using the best practices possible, ensuring it remains healthy for longer. For all pool care in Parkwood, get in touch with our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Generally, you should avoid trying to make large changes to your pool's chemical balance all at once. Instead, you should make small changes by adding small amounts of chemicals. Once you have, you should leave them to rest with a running filter for a few hours, and then test the water. Unlike making large changes, you'll be able to repeat this process continuously until you're entirely satisfied with the resultant chemical balance. It's possible that by adding large amounts of chemical in a single pass, you'll find yourself having made a large change that will be hard to correct. You'll need to make smaller changes to the chemical balance of your pool in multiple passes to keep it well-kept, instead of a single, larger change.
