 Frequently Asked Questions

Why Is My Pool Cloudy?

Generally, your pool water should be clear, allowing you to identify even small objects on your pool floor. When your pool is cloudy, it is because there is a build-up of particulates suspended in the water. Generally, these particulates are captured by your filter, and clean, clear water will be circulated back into your pool. However, this can be adversely affected due to a dirty/full or failing filter, or, insufficient turnover of water (how often the water in the pool passes through the filter). Dirt and dust can easily find their way from the surrounding area into your pool, making them a common origin for these particulates, as are the microscopic algae that grow in inadequately sanitised water. The clarity of your water may also be affected by unbalanced pool water, which will reduce the effectiveness of the sanitiser, or alter the chemicals present within the water from a liquid state to a solid state. If you need help with pool cleaning in Pacific Pines, you can call Active Pool Supplies on (07) 5537 3341.

Can I Keep My Pool Safe From Algae?

Keeping your pool water healthy and balanced requires the appropriate use of sanitiser. This is typically accomplished with chlorine, which will destroy algae and most other bacteria & small organisms in the water. Adding chlorine to your pool can be done in a variety of manners. In the past, pool owners would manually dose chlorine in liquid form on a very regular basis. Fortunately, you can save time maintain your Pacific Pines pool with a filtration system that utilises a saltwater chlorinator. These systems create a soluble hypochlorous gas using electrolysis and salts, thus killing algae and bacteria and sanitising the pool water. For the chlorine to work effectively, the pool water must be balanced so that it remains at the optimal pH level. ou'll also need to ensure the water is being well filtered, ensuring that the dead algae and bacteria that become captured in the filter are routinely removed from the pool. Good water flow throughout the pool is helpful, as is periodic brushing/cleaning of the walls and floor of the pool to remove dirt, dust and other debris.

Can I Make Large Changes To The Chemical Balance Of My Pool At Once?

To keep your pool water healthy, you'll need to perform regular upkeep and maintenance on your pool. As a result, it can be tempting to try to speed up the process in any way possible, but when it comes to keeping your pool's chemicals balanced, that may not be possible. Fortunately, to learn the best methods of keeping the balance in your pool's chemical levels, you won't need to look any further than Active Pool Supplies. For all pool care in Pacific Pines, get in touch with our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Avoid greatly altering the chemical balance of your pool in a single pass wherever possible. You can instead use small amounts of chemicals to make small changes to your pools chemical balance. Once you have, you should leave them to rest with a running filter for a few hours, and then test the water. Unlike making large changes, you'll be able to repeat this process continuously until you're entirely satisfied with the resultant chemical balance. By adding large amounts of chemicals to your pool at once, it's possible that you'll make significant changes that will be difficult to correct. You'll need to make smaller changes to the chemical balance of your pool in multiple passes to keep it well-kept, instead of a single, larger change.

Are The Maintenance Requirements For Saltwater Pools Simpler Than Other Pools?

Maintenance isn't a huge task with saltwater pools. Saltwater pools operate using a special piece of equipment called a saltwater chlorinator. Chlorinated water is produced by dissolving salt (ie sodium chloride) into the pool water and then passing the pool water through the chlorinator's salt cell to create a hypochlorous gas via electrolysis, finally returning the chlorinated water back to the pool's main body of water. It is this chlorine that sanitises the pool, eliminating bacteria and inhibiting algae growth. You'll find the pool pump plugged directly into the chlorinator, because while the chlorinator controls how much chlorine is being produced, plugging the pump directly into the chlorinator allows it to control the operation of the pump as well. You'll still need to make manual adjustments to the chlorinator and the pump based on manual tests of the chlorine level in your pool, as the chlorinator cannot automatically maintain this at the correct levels. You will also need to test the amount of salt in the pool water, and periodically add salt, according to the level required by the brand/model of the chlorinator. The chlorinator is not capable of consuming salt, which means that salt is only ever going to leave the pool when pool water is ejected, whether that's due to splashing or just backwash. Similarly, you do still need to test the other elements of water balance and adjust accordingly. A smart saltwater chlorinator may be able to automate your pool care, as it can automatically test and control the pH and chlorine levels of the water using in-built acid dosing with pH and chlorine probes.

In comparison to liquid chlorine pools (liquid chlorine is a hazardous chemical), a saltwater pool is much easier to maintain since you don't have to constantly add liquid chlorine. For a saltwater pool, the risk of metal plating along the walls of the pool is severely reduced, making it easier to maintain than an ionised pool.
