 Frequently Asked Questions

Can Pool Water Kill Grass?

To keep their Gold Coast pools sanitised, many pool owners opt for a saltwater chlorinator. The conversion of salt to chlorine allows the chlorinator to ensure your pool remains both healthy and clean. Now, while we may not be gardeners, personal experience suggests that high levels of chlorine and concentrated amounts of salt will damage your lawn. The important thing is to keep the chlorine level in the pool within the recommended range, and be a little bit careful when adding salt to the pool so that it doesn't spill directly on your grass. No matter what your question, if you need help with pool care in Oyster Cove, call us on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Low Voltage?

They sure are. The low voltage nature of these lights renders them safe to have in your pool. The power is passed through a transformer which reduces the voltage to a safe level (typically 12 volt). Active Pool Supplies can provide modern LED pool lights with varying features, including the ability to change the colour of the light, and remote control. Active Pool Supplies and our team can help you with all pool care in Oyster Cove - just call our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Is Your Pool Safer If You Have A Pool Cover?

Relying on a pool cover simply isn't enough to make sure everyone is safe around your pool. The swimming pool safety laws of Australia clearly lay out a comprehensive list of safety requirements, including all necessary fencing that a pool will require. A pool cover will not stop accidents from occurring. For help with pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast, come in and see the team here at Active Pool Supplies at our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores, or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

Can I Keep My Pool Safe From Algae?

Keeping your pool water healthy and balanced requires the appropriate use of sanitiser. Chlorine is the most common tool for keeping your pool well maintained, as it can help you kill any small organisms, bacteria, or algae present within your pool water. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. In the past, pool owners would manually dose chlorine in liquid form on a very regular basis. Fortunately, you can save time maintain your Oyster Cove pool with a filtration system that utilises a saltwater chlorinator. These systems create a soluble hypochlorous gas using electrolysis and salts, thus killing algae and bacteria and sanitising the pool water. You'll need to keep your pool water well balanced to ensure the chlorine is able to work effectively. Additionally, the water must be filtered adequately so that dead algae and bacteria is captured in the filter and periodically removed from the water when the filter is cleaned. Cleaning the floors and walls of the pool to remove dirt, dust, and debris is also critical to preventing algae, as is good water flow.

Should I Change The Chemical Balance Of My Pool By Large Amounts In One Go?

To keep your pool water healthy, you'll need to perform regular upkeep and maintenance on your pool. Keeping the chemical balance of your pool well-maintained is a delicate process, and you should make sure you don't try to rush through it. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. For all pool care in Oyster Cove, get in touch with our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Avoid greatly altering the chemical balance of your pool in a single pass wherever possible. You can instead use small amounts of chemicals to make small changes to your pools chemical balance. After these changes have been made, test the water once you've left it to rest for a few hours with the filter running. You can repeat this process until you're satisfied with the results, which may not be the case for large changes. Correcting the influence of large amounts of chemical can be difficult, and so by making large changes all at once, you may find yourself in a tough spot. If you're trying to maintain the chemical balance of your pool, you should avoid making large changes all at once.
