 Frequently Asked Questions

Is It Possible For Pool Water To Kill Your Grass?

To keep their Gold Coast pools sanitised, many pool owners opt for a saltwater chlorinator. In very simple terms, this chlorinator converts salt to chlorine to keep your pool clean and healthy. Now, while we may not be gardeners, personal experience suggests that high levels of chlorine and concentrated amounts of salt will damage your lawn. Avoiding spilling salt onto your lawn and keeping the pool's chlorine levels in check is the easiest way to protect your lawn from this damage. For help with all pool care in Monterey Keys, call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Considered Low Voltage?

They sure are. Pool lights are low voltage and therefore safe to have in your pool. The power is passed through a transformer which reduces the voltage to a safe level (typically 12 volt). We can help you find modern pool lights that utilise LEDs to allow for a variety of features, such as remote control or colour-changing functionality. For all pool care in Monterey Keys, reach out to the Active Pool Supplies team on (07) 5537 3341.

Do Pool Covers Increase The Safety Of Your Pool?

Relying on a pool cover simply isn't enough to make sure everyone is safe around your pool. Swimming pool safety laws are very prescriptive in detailing fencing and other safety matters. A pool cover will not stop accidents from occurring. Here at Active Pool Supplies, our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores can help you answer any questions you may have about pool covers or pool safety in the Gold Coast, and you're welcome to either visit us in-store or reach out to us at (07) 5537 3341.

How Do You Prevent Algae Growing In Your Pool?

Keeping your pool water healthy and balanced requires the appropriate use of sanitiser. This is typically accomplished with chlorine, which will destroy algae and most other bacteria & small organisms in the water. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. Manually chlorinating your pool on a regular basis was a common option in the past. These days, however, the most common and easiest method of sanitising Monterey Keys pools is by installing a saltwater chlorinator in the filtration system. Salt (or other suitable mineral with a salt content) is added to the pool water in sufficient quantity so that as the pool water passes the chlorinator cell, through the process of electrolysis a soluble hypochlorous gas is dispersed into the water which acts as the sanitiser to kill the algae and other bacteria present in the water. You'll need to keep your pool water well balanced to ensure the chlorine is able to work effectively. Additionally, the water must be filtered adequately so that dead algae and bacteria is captured in the filter and periodically removed from the water when the filter is cleaned. Keeping the floors and walls of your pool clean of dust, dirt, and debris can also help manage the pH of your pool water and keep it clean and safe, as is maintain good water flow.

Is It Bad For My Pool To Greatly Alter It's Chemical Balance Too Quickly?

To keep your pool water healthy, you'll need to perform regular upkeep and maintenance on your pool. As a result, it can be tempting to try to speed up the process in any way possible, but when it comes to keeping your pool's chemicals balanced, that may not be possible. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. Get in touch with us on (07) 5537 3341 about all pool care in Monterey Keys.

Generally, you should avoid trying to make large changes to your pool's chemical balance all at once. Instead, you should make small changes by adding small amounts of chemicals. After these changes have been made, test the water once you've left it to rest for a few hours with the filter running. You can repeat this process until you're satisfied with the results, which may not be the case for large changes. There is a chance that by making large alterations to your pool in a single pass, you'll find yourself having made a change that may be difficult, if not impossible, to reverse. Don't make large changes to the chemical balance of your pool in a single pass if you're trying to keep it well-maintained.
