 Frequently Asked Questions

Can Pool Water Kill Grass?

Many Gold Coast pools use a saltwater chlorinate to keep the pool sanitised. The conversion of salt to chlorine allows the chlorinator to ensure your pool remains both healthy and clean. Now, while we may not be gardeners, personal experience suggests that high levels of chlorine and concentrated amounts of salt will damage your lawn. Protecting your lawn from these dangers, though, is as simple as making sure the chlorine level of the pool remains within the recommended range, and that you're careful not to spill salt onto the grass when adding it to the pool. Call our team on (07) 5537 3341 today if you've got any questions about pool care in Molendinar.

Are Pool Lights Considered Low Voltage?

They are. The low voltage nature of these lights renders them safe to have in your pool. The power is passed through a transformer which reduces the voltage to a safe level (typically 12 volt). Here at Active Pool Supplies, we can supply you with a modern set of LED pool lights that have a variety of features, including changing colours and remote control. Call our team today on (07) 5537 3341 if you have any questions about pool care in Molendinar.

Do Pool Covers Increase The Safety Of Your Pool?

If you want to keep yourself or anyone else safe around your pool, you shouldn't rely on a pool cover to get the job done. The swimming pool safety laws of Australia clearly lay out a comprehensive list of safety requirements, including all necessary fencing that a pool will require. A pool cover will not stop accidents from occurring. You can speak to our teams at both Active Pool Supplies store, in Bundall or Runaway Bay, for help with all matters related to pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast - come in-store or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

How Do You Prevent Algae Growing In Your Pool?

You need the right levels of sanitiser in your pool to keep the water healthy and balanced. Chlorine is the most common tool for keeping your pool well maintained, as it can help you kill any small organisms, bacteria, or algae present within your pool water. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. Previously, chlorine was manually added by pool owners, requiring constant maintenance. Modern Molendinar pool owners, however, can save time by using a saltwater chlorinator with their filtration system. Salt (or other suitable mineral with a salt content) is added to the pool water in sufficient quantity so that as the pool water passes the chlorinator cell, through the process of electrolysis a soluble hypochlorous gas is dispersed into the water which acts as the sanitiser to kill the algae and other bacteria present in the water. You'll need to keep your pool water well balanced to ensure the chlorine is able to work effectively. Your pool water will also need to be well-filtered, and your filter will need to be cleaned of the dead algae and bacteria that it captures. Your pool will also benefit from good water flow and routine brushing of the walls and floor of the pool to remove debris, dirt, and dust.

Should I Change The Chemical Balance Of My Pool By Large Amounts In One Go?

For pool owners, there is a constant challenge of pool upkeep and maintenance to ensure the pool remains as functional as possible. Keeping the chemical balance of your pool well-maintained is a delicate process, and you should make sure you don't try to rush through it. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. To speak to our team about pool care in Molendinar, call us on (07) 5537 3341.

Don't alter the chemical balance of your pool in a single, large pass. Instead, you should make small changes by adding small amounts of chemicals. After these changes have been made, test the water once you've left it to rest for a few hours with the filter running. The chemical balance of your pool can be perfected by making multiple small changes and testing the water after each one, which you might not be able to do if you use large amounts of chemical at once. It's possible that by adding large amounts of chemical in a single pass, you'll find yourself having made a large change that will be hard to correct. You'll need to make smaller changes to the chemical balance of your pool in multiple passes to keep it well-kept, instead of a single, larger change.
