 Frequently Asked Questions

Does Grass Die When Exposed To Pool Water?

Saltwater chlorinators are popular choices when it comes to keeping Gold Coast pools sanitised. By converting salt to chlorine, this chlorinator is able to keep your pool healthy and clean. Now, while we may not be gardeners, personal experience suggests that high levels of chlorine and concentrated amounts of salt will damage your lawn. The important thing is to keep the chlorine level in the pool within the recommended range, and be a little bit careful when adding salt to the pool so that it doesn't spill directly on your grass. If you have any questions about pool care in Main Beach, you can reach out to our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Low Voltage?

Absolutely. It's safe to have pool lights in your pool, because these lights are low voltage. The power is passed through a transformer which reduces the voltage to a safe level (typically 12 volt). Active Pool Supplies can provide modern LED pool lights with varying features, including the ability to change the colour of the light, and remote control. If you have questions about pool care in Main Beach, contact the Active Pool Supplies team on (07) 5537 3341 today.

Are Pool Covers Safe?

It's not enough to rely on a pool cover to keep yourself and anyone else safe around your pool. Requirements surrounding fencing and pool safety are made extremely clear in Australia's swimming pool safety laws. A pool cover will not stop accidents from occurring. For help with pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast, come in and see the team here at Active Pool Supplies at our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores, or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

How Do You Prevent Algae Growing In Your Pool?

By using the right amount of sanitiser in your pool, you can keep the water balanced and healthy. You'll commonly want to use chlorine to achieve this, thanks to its ability to kill undesirable elements within your water, including algae, bacteria, and small organisms. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. In the past, pool owners would manually dose chlorine in liquid form on a very regular basis. Today, anyone with a Main Beach pool is able to cut out the maintenance time with a filtration system fitted with a saltwater chlorinator. Electrolysis is used to create a soluble hypochlorous gas by adding salt to pool water as it passes through the chlorinator cell, and this gas is used as the sanitising agent that removes bacteria and algae from your pool. For the chlorine to work effectively, the pool water must be balanced so that it remains at the optimal pH level. Additionally, the water must be filtered adequately so that dead algae and bacteria is captured in the filter and periodically removed from the water when the filter is cleaned. Good water flow throughout the pool is helpful, as is periodic brushing/cleaning of the walls and floor of the pool to remove dirt, dust and other debris.

Will Changing The Chemical Balance Of My Pool Too Quickly Create Problems?

It can be challenging to owner a pool, as they require large amounts of upkeep and maintenance to ensure they remain suitable for homeowners. Though you may want to try to speed through your maintenance commitments for your pool wherever you can, you might not be able to rush the process of balancing your pool's chemicals. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. For all pool care in Main Beach, get in touch with our team on (07) 5537 3341.

It's best if you avoid changing the chemical balance of your pool by large amount in single passes. Rather, only make small changes by using smaller amounts of chemicals. Once you have, you should leave them to rest with a running filter for a few hours, and then test the water. You can repeat this process until you're satisfied with the results, which may not be the case for large changes. By adding large amounts of chemicals to your pool at once, it's possible that you'll make significant changes that will be difficult to correct. Rather than making a single, large change to your pool's chemical balance, it's important that you make multiple smaller changes instead.
