 Frequently Asked Questions

Can Pool Water Kill Grass?

Most pools on the Gold Coast use a saltwater chlorinator to sanitise the pool. In brief, your pool is kept clean and healthy by the salt that this chlorinator converts to chlorine. Over the years, our team of pool specialists has seen the damage the resultant high amounts of salt and concentrated chlorine can do to a lawn. The important thing is to keep the chlorine level in the pool within the recommended range, and be a little bit careful when adding salt to the pool so that it doesn't spill directly on your grass. Call our team on (07) 5537 3341 today if you've got any questions about pool care in Isle of Capri.

Are Pool Lights Low Voltage?

Yes. Because pool lights are low voltage, they are safe to include in your pool. To make sure they are only using safe voltage levels, a transformer is used to ensure they use about 12 volts. Active Pool Supplies can provide modern LED pool lights with varying features, including the ability to change the colour of the light, and remote control. Call our team today on (07) 5537 3341 if you have any questions about pool care in Isle of Capri.

Can A Pool Cover Keep You And Your Pool Safe?

You should not rely on a pool cover to keep you or anyone else safe around the pool. In Australia, our swimming pool safety laws are very clear around safety matters, including the need for fencing. If your pool is protected by just a pool cover, accidents can still happen. For help with pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast, come in and see the team here at Active Pool Supplies at our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores, or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

How Do I Stop Algae From Growing In My Pool?

In order for your pool to be healthy and balanced, appropriate levels of sanitiser must be present. Generally, you'd want to use chlorine to achieve this, as the chemical can destroy algae, bacteria, and a variety of small organisms that might be living in your pool. Pool owners have several choices when they need to decide how they would like to chlorinate their pool. In the past, pool owners would manually dose chlorine in liquid form on a very regular basis. Modern Isle of Capri pool owners, however, can save time by using a saltwater chlorinator with their filtration system. Electrolysis is used to create a soluble hypochlorous gas by adding salt to pool water as it passes through the chlorinator cell, and this gas is used as the sanitising agent that removes bacteria and algae from your pool. Any chlorine treatment will depend on the pool water being appropriately balanced at an ideal pH level. Additionally, the water must be filtered adequately so that dead algae and bacteria is captured in the filter and periodically removed from the water when the filter is cleaned. Keeping the floors and walls of your pool clean of dust, dirt, and debris can also help manage the pH of your pool water and keep it clean and safe, as is maintain good water flow.

Can I Make Large Changes To The Chemical Balance Of My Pool At Once?

Owning a pool can be hard work, requiring constant maintenance and upkeep. Consequentially, it's normal for homeowners to want to speed up the process of pool upkeep wherever they can, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to cut corners when it comes to keeping the chemical balance of your pool maintained. With some help from Active Pool Supplies, you'll be able to maintain the chemical balance in your pool using the best practices possible, ensuring it remains healthy for longer. For all pool care in Isle of Capri, get in touch with our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Don't alter the chemical balance of your pool in a single, large pass. Rather, only make small changes by using smaller amounts of chemicals. After these changes have been made, test the water once you've left it to rest for a few hours with the filter running. You can repeat this process until you're satisfied with the results, which may not be the case for large changes. There is a chance that by making large alterations to your pool in a single pass, you'll find yourself having made a change that may be difficult, if not impossible, to reverse. You'll need to make smaller changes to the chemical balance of your pool in multiple passes to keep it well-kept, instead of a single, larger change.
