 Frequently Asked Questions

Why Is My Pool Cloudy?

When your swimming pool is healthy, you should be able to identify small objects on the floor of the pool with ease. If particulates have built-up within your water, then your water is likely to instead become cloudy. In normal circumstances, your filter will capture these particles, and return particle-free, clear water back to the pool. Sadly, when your pool filter suffers from being dirty or full, or the media is old and struggling to adequately filter, it might not be able to clean your water correctly, allowing for particulate build-ups to form. The root cause of the particulates in the water can be dirt/dust entering the pool water from the surrounding environment, or from microscopic algae that has started to grow due to improperly sanitised pool water. Improperly balanced water may adversely impact the sanitiser, and can also alter the state of the chemicals present in the water from liquid to solid, and both of these consequences can then also affect the clarity of the water. When you need a crack team to help you with pool cleaning in Gaven, call (07) 5537 3341 to get in touch with Active Pool Supplies.

How Do I Stop Algae From Growing In My Pool?

You need the right levels of sanitiser in your pool to keep the water healthy and balanced. Chlorine is the most common tool for keeping your pool well maintained, as it can help you kill any small organisms, bacteria, or algae present within your pool water. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. The standard used to be constant vigilance, with pool owners needing to manually add chlorine to their pool water with a clockwork consistency. These days, however, the most common and easiest method of sanitising Gaven pools is by installing a saltwater chlorinator in the filtration system. Electrolysis is used to create a soluble hypochlorous gas by adding salt to pool water as it passes through the chlorinator cell, and this gas is used as the sanitising agent that removes bacteria and algae from your pool. Your pool water will need to be maintained at an appropriate pH level to ensure the chlorine treatment remains effective. Additionally, the water must be filtered adequately so that dead algae and bacteria is captured in the filter and periodically removed from the water when the filter is cleaned. Keeping the floors and walls of your pool clean of dust, dirt, and debris can also help manage the pH of your pool water and keep it clean and safe, as is maintain good water flow.

Can I Make Large Changes To The Chemical Balance Of My Pool At Once?

For pool owners, there is a constant challenge of pool upkeep and maintenance to ensure the pool remains as functional as possible. Keeping the chemical balance of your pool well-maintained is a delicate process, and you should make sure you don't try to rush through it. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. If you need pool care in Gaven, you can reach out team by calling (07) 5537 3341.

Generally, you should avoid trying to make large changes to your pool's chemical balance all at once. Rather, only make small changes by using smaller amounts of chemicals. Test the water's chemical levels a few hours after each small change, though it is important that you leave it to rest with the filter running in the interim. You can repeat this process until you're satisfied with the results, which may not be the case for large changes. There is a chance that by making large alterations to your pool in a single pass, you'll find yourself having made a change that may be difficult, if not impossible, to reverse. If you're trying to maintain the chemical balance of your pool, you should avoid making large changes all at once.

Is It Easier To Maintain Saltwater Pools?

It's really rather simple to maintain a saltwater pool. If you own a saltwater pool, it'll use a saltwater chlorinator to operate the pump and sanitise the pool. A defined amount of salt (sodium chloride) is dissolved in the pool water and as this pool water passes through the chlorinator's salt cell, a hypochlorous gas is produced (via electrolysis) and this chlorinated water is returned to the pool. This chlorine has a sanitising effect on the water of your pool, killing bacteria and stopping the growth of algae. The chlorinator allows you to control the amount of chlorine being produced, and typically the pool pump is plugged into the chlorinator so that the in-built timer in the chlorinator can control the operation of the pump, that is, it tells the pump when to turn on and off. However, it's important to remember that a chlorinator itself cannot automatically maintain the correct level of chlorine necessary for your pool, so you'll still need to manually test the chlorine in your water and adjust the level by either altering the chlorinator output or the run time of the pump. Your chlorinator, depending on the brand and model, will also have a specific need for salt, which means you'll need to keep an eye on the salt level of the water and adjust as necessary by adding more salt. It is important to note that the chlorinator does not consume salt, and the only way that salt can leave the pool is when water leaves the pool (eg splashing or backwashing the filter). The balance of the water in your pool still needs to be maintained and adjusted, as there are other elements you will need to balance. Having said that, we do have very smart saltwater chlorinators that are fully automated with in-built acid dosing and pH and chlorine probes to automatically test and control pH and chlorine levels.

Saltwater pools are much easier to maintain than liquid chlorine pools (and liquid chlorine is also a hazardous material), as there is no requirement to be constantly adding this dangeous chemical. For a saltwater pool, the risk of metal plating along the walls of the pool is severely reduced, making it easier to maintain than an ionised pool.

Did you know this about Gaven?

When it comes to choosing the right equipment for your pool in Gaven, Active Pool Supplies knows best. We are committed to giving you the proper pool equipment for a healthy and clean pool.

Situated north of Nerang, Gaven is one of the residential localities on the Gold Coast. Its boundary on the east is marked by the Pacific Highway. In 2016, there were 1,558 people living in the area.

It was Eric Gaven who named the suburb. He was a local shire councillor from 1935 to 1966. Around the 1990s, Stockland had an 800-ha of land on the western part of Gaven. The property included plantation with views to Stradbroke Island and Coolangatta.

Development continuously arose in the area as schools and demands of houses increased. Gaven State School was established on the 27th of January 1995. It is now within the boundaries of its neighbouring suburb Oxenford. Hotels and resorts were also present in the suburb, too.

The suburbs that surround Gaven are Pacific Pines, Arundel, Molendinar and Nerang.

With homes and population increase in the suburb, pools are also part of the master plan. It's a great way to combat the summer heat in Gaven. Pools are also great investments as it increases home value and there's no need for you to visit community pools. But when pools are not given proper care, it might lose its beauty and cause harm to your family.

Since proper care includes cleaning and regular maintenance, we recommend calling on the award-winning pool experts from the Gold Coast. Our team offers pool renovation, water testing and other pool services. We also have pool shops located at Runaway Bay and Bundall that only sell high-quality pool products.
