 Frequently Asked Questions

Does Grass Die When Exposed To Pool Water?

Saltwater chlorinators are popular choices when it comes to keeping Gold Coast pools sanitised. By converting salt to chlorine, this chlorinator is able to keep your pool healthy and clean. Over the years, our team of pool specialists has seen the damage the resultant high amounts of salt and concentrated chlorine can do to a lawn. The important thing is to keep the chlorine level in the pool within the recommended range, and be a little bit careful when adding salt to the pool so that it doesn't spill directly on your grass. If you have any questions about pool care in Elanora, you can reach out to our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Low Voltage?

Absolutely. It's safe to have pool lights in your pool, because these lights are low voltage. To make sure they are only using safe voltage levels, a transformer is used to ensure they use about 12 volts. Active Pool Supplies can provide modern LED pool lights with varying features, including the ability to change the colour of the light, and remote control. If you have questions about pool care in Elanora, contact the Active Pool Supplies team on (07) 5537 3341 today.

Is Your Pool Safer If You Have A Pool Cover?

It's not enough to rely on a pool cover to keep yourself and anyone else safe around your pool. Requirements surrounding fencing and pool safety are made extremely clear in Australia's swimming pool safety laws. If your pool is protected by just a pool cover, accidents can still happen. For help with pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast, come in and see the team here at Active Pool Supplies at our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores, or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

How Do I Stop Algae From Growing In My Pool?

By using the right amount of sanitiser in your pool, you can keep the water balanced and healthy. You'll commonly want to use chlorine to achieve this, thanks to its ability to kill undesirable elements within your water, including algae, bacteria, and small organisms. Pool owners have several choices when they need to decide how they would like to chlorinate their pool. In the past, pool owners would manually dose chlorine in liquid form on a very regular basis. Today, anyone with a Elanora pool is able to cut out the maintenance time with a filtration system fitted with a saltwater chlorinator. Salt (or other suitable mineral with a salt content) is added to the pool water in sufficient quantity so that as the pool water passes the chlorinator cell, through the process of electrolysis a soluble hypochlorous gas is dispersed into the water which acts as the sanitiser to kill the algae and other bacteria present in the water. Your pool water will need to be maintained at an appropriate pH level to ensure the chlorine treatment remains effective. It's also important that you filter the pool water appropriately, and that you regularly remove dead algae and bacteria from the filter. Cleaning the floors and walls of the pool to remove dirt, dust, and debris is also critical to preventing algae, as is good water flow.

Is It Bad For My Pool To Greatly Alter It's Chemical Balance Too Quickly?

It can be challenging to owner a pool, as they require large amounts of upkeep and maintenance to ensure they remain suitable for homeowners. Though you may want to try to speed through your maintenance commitments for your pool wherever you can, you might not be able to rush the process of balancing your pool's chemicals. With some help from Active Pool Supplies, you'll be able to maintain the chemical balance in your pool using the best practices possible, ensuring it remains healthy for longer. For all pool care in Elanora, get in touch with our team on (07) 5537 3341.

It's best if you avoid changing the chemical balance of your pool by large amount in single passes. Instead, you should make small changes by adding small amounts of chemicals. Test the water's chemical levels a few hours after each small change, though it is important that you leave it to rest with the filter running in the interim. Using large amounts of chemical in a single pass deprives you of the ability to test the water repeatedly and stop once you've achieved perfection, which you can do after smaller changes. Correcting the influence of large amounts of chemical can be difficult, and so by making large changes all at once, you may find yourself in a tough spot. Rather than making a single, large change to your pool's chemical balance, it's important that you make multiple smaller changes instead.
