 Frequently Asked Questions

Is It Possible For Pool Water To Kill Your Grass?

Many Gold Coast pools use a saltwater chlorinate to keep the pool sanitised. The conversion of salt to chlorine allows the chlorinator to ensure your pool remains both healthy and clean. Now, while we may not be gardeners, personal experience suggests that high levels of chlorine and concentrated amounts of salt will damage your lawn. The important thing is to keep the chlorine level in the pool within the recommended range, and be a little bit careful when adding salt to the pool so that it doesn't spill directly on your grass. No matter what your question, if you need help with pool care in Currumbin, call us on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Low Voltage?

They are. The low voltage nature of these lights renders them safe to have in your pool. The power is passed through a transformer which reduces the voltage to a safe level (typically 12 volt). Active Pool Supplies can provide modern LED pool lights with varying features, including the ability to change the colour of the light, and remote control. Active Pool Supplies and our team can help you with all pool care in Currumbin - just call our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Is Your Pool Safer If You Have A Pool Cover?

If you want to keep yourself or anyone else safe around your pool, you shouldn't rely on a pool cover to get the job done. The swimming pool safety laws of Australia clearly lay out a comprehensive list of safety requirements, including all necessary fencing that a pool will require. A pool cover will not stop accidents from occurring. For help with pool covers and pool safety on the Gold Coast, come in and see the team here at Active Pool Supplies at our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores, or call us today on (07) 5537 3341.

How Do You Prevent Algae Growing In Your Pool?

You need the right levels of sanitiser in your pool to keep the water healthy and balanced. Chlorine is the most common tool for keeping your pool well maintained, as it can help you kill any small organisms, bacteria, or algae present within your pool water. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. In the past, pool owners would manually dose chlorine in liquid form on a very regular basis. Fortunately, you can save time maintain your Currumbin pool with a filtration system that utilises a saltwater chlorinator. The chlorinator cell uses electrolysis to add salt to the pool water, creating a soluble hypochlorous gas that sanitises the pool water by removing algae and bacteria. For the chlorine to work effectively, the pool water must be balanced so that it remains at the optimal pH level. It's also important that you filter the pool water appropriately, and that you regularly remove dead algae and bacteria from the filter. Good water flow throughout the pool is helpful, as is periodic brushing/cleaning of the walls and floor of the pool to remove dirt, dust and other debris.

Should I Change The Chemical Balance Of My Pool By Large Amounts In One Go?

For pool owners, there is a constant challenge of pool upkeep and maintenance to ensure the pool remains as functional as possible. Keeping the chemical balance of your pool well-maintained is a delicate process, and you should make sure you don't try to rush through it. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. For all pool care in Currumbin, get in touch with our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Avoid greatly altering the chemical balance of your pool in a single pass wherever possible. Make smaller changes instead by using smaller amounts of chemicals in any one attempt. Once you have, you should leave them to rest with a running filter for a few hours, and then test the water. Using large amounts of chemical in a single pass deprives you of the ability to test the water repeatedly and stop once you've achieved perfection, which you can do after smaller changes. By adding large amounts of chemicals to your pool at once, it's possible that you'll make significant changes that will be difficult to correct. Don't make large changes to the chemical balance of your pool in a single pass if you're trying to keep it well-maintained.
