 Frequently Asked Questions

Will Pool Water Damage Your Lawn?

Most pools on the Gold Coast use a saltwater chlorinator to sanitise the pool. In very simple terms, this chlorinator converts salt to chlorine to keep your pool clean and healthy. Now, while we may not be gardeners, personal experience suggests that high levels of chlorine and concentrated amounts of salt will damage your lawn. Avoiding spilling salt onto your lawn and keeping the pool's chlorine levels in check is the easiest way to protect your lawn from this damage. No matter what your question, if you need help with pool care in Coombabah, call us on (07) 5537 3341.

Are Pool Lights Rated For Lower Voltages Than Other Home Appliances?

Yes. Pool lights are low voltage and therefore safe to have in your pool. The power is passed through a transformer which reduces the voltage to a safe level (typically 12 volt). We can help you find modern pool lights that utilise LEDs to allow for a variety of features, such as remote control or colour-changing functionality. Active Pool Supplies and our team can help you with all pool care in Coombabah - just call our team on (07) 5537 3341.

Do Pool Covers Increase The Safety Of Your Pool?

You should not rely on a pool cover to keep you or anyone else safe around the pool. Swimming pool safety laws are very prescriptive in detailing fencing and other safety matters. A pool cover will not stop accidents from occurring. Here at Active Pool Supplies, our Bundall and Runaway Bay stores can help you answer any questions you may have about pool covers or pool safety in the Gold Coast, and you're welcome to either visit us in-store or reach out to us at (07) 5537 3341.

Can I Prevent Algae From Growing In My Pool?

In order for your pool to be healthy and balanced, appropriate levels of sanitiser must be present. This is typically accomplished with chlorine, which will destroy algae and most other bacteria & small organisms in the water. There are several different ways of adding chlorine to the pool. Manually chlorinating your pool on a regular basis was a common option in the past. Fortunately, you can save time maintain your Coombabah pool with a filtration system that utilises a saltwater chlorinator. These systems create a soluble hypochlorous gas using electrolysis and salts, thus killing algae and bacteria and sanitising the pool water. Your pool water will need to be maintained at an appropriate pH level to ensure the chlorine treatment remains effective. Your pool water will also need to be well-filtered, and your filter will need to be cleaned of the dead algae and bacteria that it captures. Your pool will also benefit from good water flow and routine brushing of the walls and floor of the pool to remove debris, dirt, and dust.

Can I Make Large Changes To The Chemical Balance Of My Pool At Once?

Owning a pool can be hard work, requiring constant maintenance and upkeep. As a result, it can be tempting to try to speed up the process in any way possible, but when it comes to keeping your pool's chemicals balanced, that may not be possible. Thankfully, Active Pool Supplies can help you understand the best practices for maintaining the chemical balance of your pools. Get in touch with us on (07) 5537 3341 about all pool care in Coombabah.

Avoid greatly altering the chemical balance of your pool in a single pass wherever possible. You can instead use small amounts of chemicals to make small changes to your pools chemical balance. Test the water's chemical levels a few hours after each small change, though it is important that you leave it to rest with the filter running in the interim. The chemical balance of your pool can be perfected by making multiple small changes and testing the water after each one, which you might not be able to do if you use large amounts of chemical at once. It's possible that by adding large amounts of chemical in a single pass, you'll find yourself having made a large change that will be hard to correct. If you're trying to maintain the chemical balance of your pool, you should avoid making large changes all at once.
