Our response to Coronavirus Covid-19 for your health and hygiene

1.  Is your pool water safe?
Chlorine is a chemical that authorities are typically using to sanitise in order to kill the COVID-19 virus in effected areas (it's bleach, basically!).  Effectively, the sanitiser in your pool (produced by your saltwater chlorinator) is the same thing.  

The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention states, "There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools...Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine) of pools...should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19."

As usual, we recommend to keep your chlorine level at 3 to 5 parts per million, and make sure the water is balanced with a pH of 7.4 to 7.6, and Total Alkalinity within the range 100 to 150, so that the chlorine is most effective.

And then jump in the pool to take your mind off the craziness!

2.  "Contactless" pool servicing.
To the maximum extent possible, our Pool Technicians are practicing "contactless" pool servicing when they visit to service your pool.  This means they'll let you know they have arrived, but there is no need to speak face to face, unless you wish to.  We use our own pool pole and other equipment, so we don't touch any of your pool cleaning gear.  And we spray all contact points on your filtration equipment with a diluted chlorine solution to make sure it's clean before we touch anything - this includes your pool gate latches.

To be honest, given that we are regularly up to our elbows in chlorine, we reckon we're the most hygienic tradesmen going around!

3.  Just back off, okay?
Don't be offended when you visit, but we are keeping our distance.  We are following strict hygiene and social distancing protocols in our shops so that when you visit, you, and we, are all staying safe.

4.  Water Sample Bottle drop & collect points in shops.
If you wish to minimise your time in our shop, feel free to drop your Water Sample bottle at the drop point and we'll test it, and have the results and instructions ready when you return at your convenience.  

Make sure your bottle is marked with your name, phone number and your APS customer ID number.

5.  Contactless water test & chemical delivery service.
If you wish to avoid the shops entirely, then feel free to book a "Test & Deliver".  For $30, plus the cost of chemicals to re-balance your pool, we'll visit your pool, test the pool water, and leave the necessary chemicals on site for you to add to the pool at your convenience.  We'll ask you for your credit card details when you book, and we'll charge your card after we've visited.

6.  Support your mates and buy local.
Finally, in these testing times, we think it's worthwhile making an effort to buy locally, where possible.  The big chains stores and the multi-nationals have the financial resilience to ride out the COVID-19 storm, whereas local small businesses, owned and operated by your neighbours, and employing other locals, probably have less financial muscle so they need your continued patronage to survive.
